Micronutrients will be supplied by the compost, but macronutrients (N, P, K, S, Mg, and Ca) may need to be supplemented.

If soil pH is below 6.0, pelletized lime dolomite should be incorporated during the amendment process.  Typical application rate: 50-100 pounds per 1000 square feet.

If nitrogen is needed, it should be supplied in a slow release, water insoluble form.  Compost may supply all necessary nitrogen for at least the first year after application.  After the first year, annual nitrogen requirements range from 2 to 8 pounds per 1000 square feet.

Gypsum can be used to add calcium and sulfur to the soil without increasing pH.  In salty soils, it can help to displace sodium ions.  It can also help to bind clay particles, increasing macropore abundance.  50-100 pounds of gypsum per 1000 square feet should be incorporated into heavy clay soils3
