Conservation Uses of LID BMPs

As mentioned on the initial design page, LID BMPs can be used in a number of different settings.  It is important to remember that many of the concepts introduced in this website are applicable to general conservation uses in the community.  There are many locations to consider LID BMP implementations such as parks, playing fields, canoe ramps, school yards, and multi-use trails.

Suggestions:

  • Use bioretention cells as rain gardens in parks and school yards to reduce runoff volume and filter pollutants.
  • Use permeable pavement on canoe ramps.
  • Use rain barrels at schools.  Disconnect the downspouts from roofs and direct the flow to permeable paver areas or other vegetated infiltration / filtration practices.
  • Use green roofs on playing field dugouts for runoff reduction, energy savings, improved air quality, and enhanced aesthetics.
