LID Planning Process for Urban Areas
Client: U.S. EPA Assistance Agreement
Grant Date: 2003 Under this assistance agreement, the LID Center explored and developed ways in which LID can be used in the planning process for the redevelopment and retrofit of urban areas. The study examined existing building and development codes and made recommendations on how to incorporate language into master plans and development ordinances to facilitate LID. The study also proposed several protocols and listed considerations on the use of LID in urban areas.
The Center conducted both local and national surveys
and interviews of planners from communities that were
exploring the use of LID. The interviews spotlighted the
questions and issues that they thought were critical to
the implementation and institutionalization of LID. The
study includes checklists, procedures, and
recommendations on phasing and timing of retrofit
construction for Integrated Management Practices (IMPs).
